Picking the Mount Airy Flea Market

Last weekend we stopped at the giant flea market located in Mount Airy, Maryland. The fairgrounds were jammed packed with treasures of all kinds. Pricing was a little high so we didn’t make a ton of purchases. It’s hard not to get caught up in the spirit of the hustle but you always have to remember, you make your money on the buy side. Over pay and your profit margarine slips! Check out the full video and leave us a like or two!

National Scenic Road road trip: Catonsville to Mt. Airy, Maryland

Recently we drove the National Scenic Road from Catonsville to Mount Airy, MD. We were on our way to explore the town of Mount Airy, MD over the 4th of July weekend. If you haven't seen it yet, they had an awesome fire works display that was our first, in over two years, since the pandemic.

The road trip was very rewarding as we passed through the historic town of Ellicott City and then Mt. Airy. Please take a few minutes (less than 12), buckle up and enjoy the ride.

We waited two years for this.....

This past weekend we traveled to the town of Mt. Airy, MD to do some sightseeing and picking! The town truly delivered. It has all of the small town charm yet is conveniently located near the interstate. A surprising discovery we observed on every light post in town was a banner dedicated to honoring one of Mt. Airy's hometown hero's. Along with the banner's we learned that the town was hosting a free celebration, along with music and fireworks to honor our nations 245th birthday!

While we enjoyed the music and waited for the setting sun and the soon to be released firework, a massive summer storm blew through town soaking everyone. Since we learned about the fireworks after we arrived in town, we were totally unprepared for the weather and we were drenched. Nevertheless, the town insisted that fireworks show was going to happen. It had been two years since we were able to celebrate the 4th of July so we stuck it out, as did most of the Mt. Airy resident's, until the grand finale.

We stood in the rain, so you wouldn't have to! Enjoy and God Bless America!

Internet Monkey's on Strike

We tried to send this update earlier today but realized that the Internet Monkey's were working their Black Magic and the feed didn't upload properly. I think Matt the Unpaid Intern, whom we hold personally responsible for the entire Internet, at least from the perspective of the Flip Flops and Flips family, worked out the code and got us back in business. So, we apologize for sending you, a worthless email update this morning.

Really, all Matt the guru did was check the right box and we're back online. Internet magic, is what we think it is. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this update, for reals this time.

Timesaving Tip- USPS enables Self Check-in for Pre-paid Packages

Standing in line is the worst but it is one of the only ways that you can ensure that your packages getting scannned into the delivery stream and start tracking. All of the easier ways leave your package at the mercy of the overwhelmed Postal Workers. Until now! The United State Postal Service just turned on the feature that allows customers to get a receipt at the self check-in kiosk for pre-paid labels. This is a game changer. As a reseller, having that initial scan-in is vital for our customers to see that we did in fact attempt to mail their purchases. Everyone knows that the Postal Service is overwhelmed right now but really, all we need is that first step to be scanned. Everyone's willing to accept that their packages will be late this year but no one believes the seller if the package never gets scanned in. Today, I tried the kiosk and my packages were registered almost immediately. Hopefully, this trend will continue. Check out the  tik-tok video we uploaded that explains how it all worked. https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMJsdeMsS/

You need a Plan!

Recent events have solidified, in my mind at least, the need for our family to be as self- sufficient as possible. It is obvious that the threads that hold our society together are very thin.

The news is filled with a near constant barrage of negativity. This negativity spurs the imagination of the public at large. The result of which, can be seen in the multiple cases of hoarding and panic buying. I mean for God's sake, people are actually fighting over toilet paper. This madness needs to stop.

When I was in the Military, I learned a very valuable lesson which we called the 6 P's. Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance. That is all that really needs to be said. In my mind, there is no way anyone with a computer, mobile device, or television could not have seen these problems coming. We saw the quiet storm brewing back in January and quickly understood that this was going to impact the United States. Yet so few of our fellow citizens, rather out of ignorance or bliss, paid attention to the tea leaves. Many did not take this current nightmare serious enough to prepare. Now its so serious, there may not be enough time left to prepare.

In any given disaster scenario there are always two forces at work. The actual, real impact of said disaster and then there's the public's perception of the disaster. Both seem connected but are in fact independent of each other. What this means is that while we can plan and prepare for any disaster scenario we can't plan for the public's reaction to  it. While I knew the U.S. was going to be impacted I never imagine that the public would focus on toilet paper, especially since none of the big V's symptoms involve heavy use of TP. With all of that said, we need to realize that when we make plans, often based on the best information available at the time, that there is another immutable military rule that is always at work.

This simple rule states, "No plan will survive the initial contact with the enemy." what this means is that no matter how professional of a plan you make, there will be outcomes that you didn't foresee,ie. national toilet paper shortages. This rule does not imply that you forgo the planning process just because things will change. Instead, it suggests that you need to build flexibility and creativity into your plans.

On our next post, we will discuss what it means to be self sufficient.
